of Breaking the Spell, Consciousness Explained, and
Darwin's Dangerous Idea |
On February
24-25 2007, over a thousand people filled the Leavell Chapel of
New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary to hear a dialogue
between Tufts University scholar Daniel
Dennett and Oxford don
Alister McGrath on the status of religion and the
future of atheism. Dennett, one of the most powerful
intellectual representatives of the new atheism, addressed the
possibility of studying religion through science and the
naturalistic worldview. McGrath, a former atheist himself,
argued that empirical science alone is insufficient in explaining the
complexity of the universe and religion.
Additional speakers included Keith
Parsons, Evan Fales, William Lane Craig, Paul Copan, and Hugh
McCann.
